Thank you! The reason it's not a comic right now is racism. The Movement by Gail Simone is one DC Comic that has a great Black female lead character, I highly recommend it!

Yes! Agreed. I think outside of a very few X-men-centric titles, there are little positive Women of Color in comic books; especially Black women.
Thank you for the recommendation! I rarely read DC titles, so I'd love to check it out!

And THANK YOU for the amazing cosplay. I think I may just fanart it :)

There are actually over 100 female characters of color in the big 2 comic book companies, but because of reboots many of them are no longer 'in universe' in their respective companies. There are also many independent comic books with positive female characters of color.

I really hope you do give The Movement a try! It's very unique, it might as well be a stand alone work so far but Gail says she will be bringing in a few lesser known DC characters so it is still part of the DCU.

I would be absolutely honored if you did! :D

You're absolutely right! I've found more interesting characters of color in many an independent comic book title; and find myself longing for (now non-existent) POC characters from the Big Two!

I will definitely check out The Movement! I'll give everything with Gail Simone's name a chance :)

I've been wanting to do more art featuring POC, and I think this gave me the spark I needed. I've been wanting to draw Nubia for AGES and now I have a reason to depict her and a racebent Wonder Girl. Thank you for providing me with inspiration :)

Oh, I also hope you check out Fearless Defenders, it's a Marvel title with an all female team with Dani Moonstar and Misty Knight. I love that book!

Which Nubia are you thinking of? The version I do is not 'Diana's Black Sister' but a standalone character who is Wonder Woman in her own right, from an alternate Earth. If you haven't read Final Crisis 7 or (new52) Action Comics #9, that's where she's from. Action Comics #9 is definitely an issue worth having in your collection. It features an all Black Justice League on Earth 23 and an intriguing storyline I would love to see more of in the future.

Oh absolutely yes! You had me at Mark Brooks' awesome covers! And Dani Moonstar is definitely a character in need of spotlight!

Lol, yeah I know of the Nubia that you're cosplaying ;)
The silver girdle was the giveaway <3
I loved that all Black Justice League story! That's exactly what we need: superhero teams consisting ENTIRELY of POC.
